The Peggy Guggenheim Collection hosts the first solo exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to Marina Apollonio (born in 1940), one of the major exponents of international Optical and Kinetic Art, supported and collected by Peggy Guggenheim herself. The exhibition curated by Marianna Gelussi, art historian and independent curator, is a fitting tribute to the artist from Trieste, with around one hundred works on display from the artist’s studio and from national and international museums, including the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin, the MART in Rovereto, the Neue Galerie in Graz, the Kunsthalle Recklinghausen and the Ritter Museum in Waldenbuch, Germany, the Museum Haus Konstruktiv in Zurich, and the Fondation Villa Datris de l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, France. Marina Apollonio. Beyond the Circle retraces the artist's career from 1963 to today, highlighting the rigour of her visual research, including painting, sculpture and drawing, static, moving and environmental works, black and white and chromatic research, technical and material experimentation.
