Moonkillers, or the Return to Painting

Moonkillers is the captivating title of the exhibition curated by Antonio Grulli at Tommaso Calabro Gallery in the Venetian venue of Palazzo Donà Brusa, which presents a selection of works - including paintings, works on paper and graphics - by the artists Michele Bubacco (Venice, 1983), CANEMORTO, Emilio Gola (Milan, 1994), Alessandro Miotti (Marostica, 1991) and Flaminia Veronesi (Milan, 1986). What the artists on diaplay have in common is not only that they are all Italian, but above all is their clear belonging to an expressive current that harks back inextricably to the artistic movements of the past, from the Fauves to Die Brucke, from Futurism to Dada, from the COBRA Group to the Transavanguardia to the Neue Wilde, also drawing from the contemporaneity of the street, illustration, comics, the Punk movement, and all the vital universes often excluded from "high" art. The works of this generation of artists outside the box evoke seasons of impetuous painting made of quick and instinctive signs, of bright colours, permeated by youthful spirit, emotions, feelings and pulsating life, of provocation, enthusiasm and mockery, of the desire to grab one's own space in the world.
